Song-Jaane wo kaise log the jinke
Film : Pyaasa (1957)
Singer-Hemant Kumar
Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi
Music -S D Burman

jaane wo kaise log the jinke
pyaar ko pyaar milaa
hamne to jab kaliyaan maangi
kaanton kaa haar milaa
jaane wo kaise log the jinke
pyaar ko pyaar milaa

khushiyon ki manzil dhoondhi to
gham ki gard mili
khushiyon ki manzil dhoondhi to
gham ki gard mili
chaahat ke naghme chaahe to
aahen sard mili
dil ke bojh ko dhundhlaa kar gayaa jo gamkhaar milaa
hamne to jab kaliyaan maangi
kaanton kaa haar milaa
jaane wo kaise log the jinke
pyaar ko pyaar milaa

bichhad gayaa
bichhad gayaa… bichhad gayaa har saathi dekar
pal do pal kaa saath
kisko fursat hai jo thaame deewaanon kaa haath
hamko apnaa saayaa tak aqsar bezaar milaa
hamne to jab kaliyaan maangi
kaanton kaa haar milaa
jaane wo kaise log the jinke
pyaar ko pyaar milaa

isko hi jeenaa kahte hain to
yoonhi jee lenge
isko hi jeenaa kahte hain to
yoonhi jee lenge
uff na karenge lab see lenge
aansoo pi lenge
gham se ab ghabraanaa kaisaa, gham sau baar milaa
hamne to jab kaliyaan maangi
kaanton kaa haar milaa
jaane wo kaise log the jinke
pyaar ko pyaar milaa

Translation –

One who is a vaishnav
Knows the pain of others
Does good to others, esp. to those ones who are in misery
And does not let pride enter his mind

A Vaishnav, Tolerates and praises the entire world
Does not say bad about anyone
Keeps his/her words, actions and thoughts un-perturbed
O Vaishnav, your mother is blessed (dhanya-dhanya)

A Vaishnav sees everything equally, rejects greed and avarice
Considers other's wife/daughter as his mother
The tongue may get tired by saying the truth, but will never speak a lie
Does not even touch someone else's property

A Vaishnav does not succumb to worldly attachments
Who has devoted himself to stauch detachment to worldly pleasures
Who has been edicted to the elixir coming by the name of Ram
For whom all the religious sites are in his own mind

Who has no greed and deciet
Who has renounced lust and anger of all types
The poet Narsi will like to see such a person
By who's virtue, the entire family gets salvation
